Concord Blushies by DarkMage2 Concord Blushies by DarkMage2
The blushies may or may not owe their existence to Mark Crilley.

Wondering what to do with my happy Concord scrap, so I decided to try colouring it in all three of the styles I know, since it's a relatively easy/simple drawing. You can see the comparison here: [link]

After doing the vector style, ah, wow, no comment. I thought the orange was a bit too intense so I changed it to something cooler. Green, since it contrasts with red. Also desaturated Concord a little bit.

I think this may be comparable to Whence The Rollercoaster, if you discount the loss of a background- however it was much, much quicker to make thanks to what I learned about vector masks and layer masks. Really really handy. It still took longer than the other two styles combined, though.

Feel free to critique, particularly I'd be interested in hearing any thoughts on the different styles, and even my work in general over the last while.

Very awesome work right here! I've always been a greater fan of traditional than digital, but this a very nice and well made vector. Try to choose a favourite between the three different versions, though, is like trying to choose between bananas and waffles... They all are good, and each one has a different area where it does best in. But I'd say I like the squeeze style a lot, the colors are nice and crisp and it still has a slightly sketchy look to it (which I like :3). It just looks neat! :D

The desaturation and background color change are a definite improvement over the initial vector image. It came out quite nicely in the end.

I do think the vector image is the best looking of the three in the stash, but as a fan of the vector process I may be a bit biased on that. The ease with which I can correct and adjust my own sketches while vectoring is one of my favorite aspects of the process. Of course, I'm also quite aware of how long the process can take.

I must say that the 'Squeeze' style picture is also very nice. But perhaps more importantly, this style overall is something unique. I can always tell when one of your pictures is in a group because it doesn't look like anything that anyone else does. That alone is probably enough to make it worthwhile to continue developing and refining it.

Well...actually I find only squeeze and basic versions interesting, so it's good they are also included. There is nothing wrong with this work, but I just think that you can do better than just a simple vector (or I just got used to your different styles than vector). My personal favourite is...ymm...I can't really decide. They are all good. But if I really had to choose, it would be basic. It contains something that the rest don't (I don't know - just a magic).
